Medical Innovation Student Team

Be Undeniable

About

At UBC MIST, our team strives to augment the UBC biomedical engineering student community's capacity to participate in, and contribute to, the larger conversation on healthcare as well as the biomedical technology in it. Our central approach to achieving this is through participation in biomedical engineering competitions around the world, where we put forward new solutions to pressing medical challenges and help build the technical abilities of our team members.

2018/19

With our team's model being driven by a new innovation every year, MIST has decided to focus their attention on a specific field for 2018/19 - mental health. While researching projects for the team, we realized that mental health is a key topic in medicine but is not given as much attention in engineering. This was the catalyst that sparked our interest in the topic, as we believe that there is a lot of room for innovation and growth in this particular field.

We hope to blend hardware, software, and machine learning together to help reduce stress and anxiety. By summer 2019, we plan on having this project completed and hope to have a positive impact in the mental health community as a whole.

Ever since I was a child, I have been fascinated with living things and the way that learning can help us improve lives and reduce suffering. This fascination slowly morphed into a concrete interest in the field biomedical engineering for both medical and veterinary settings, leading to me pursuing a degree in electrical/biomedical engineering at UBC.
